The Virginia Association of Addiction Professionals (VAAP) is proud to welcome Jessica Swan, MCJ, MAC, LSATP as its newly elected President. Jessica, a nationally recognized leader in addiction recovery, brings decades of experience in clinical counseling, program development, and training to her new role.
She succeeds David Semanco, who has led VAAP with unwavering dedication, most recently as the President for the past 3.5 years, strengthening the organization’s commitment to education, advocacy, and professional development in the addiction field. Under his leadership, VAAP has expanded its training programs, deepened its impact, and created a strong, engaged community of professionals. We extend our deepest gratitude to David for his service and leadership, and we look forward to carrying his vision forward.

About Jessica Swan
Jessica is the founder of Recovery Consulting, where she provides expert guidance to professionals, families, and organizations navigating substance use treatment and recovery. Her work spans clinical care, research, and advocacy, and she has led national training initiatives to bridge gaps between business, legal, and clinical professionals in the addiction treatment field.
As a published researcher and speaker, Jessica is known for developing innovative programming, including the trademarked FACE Recovery™ treatment model. (FAmily CEntered relational Recovery) This approach emphasizes integrating families and support systems into the treatment phase and throughout the recovery process, ensuring a more holistic and sustainable path to healing. She also specializes in supporting high-level professionals in recovery, such as athletes, healthcare providers, and legal professionals, while also working with government agencies and nonprofits to improve system-wide approaches to addiction treatment.

What are your primary goals for the organization during your tenure?
To increase training opportunities, improve technology and access to training, and lead our board with grace and humility.
How do you envision VAAP’s growth and impact in the coming years?
I envision moderate but intentional growth, as we work to track specific metrics that help us serve our diverse membership more effectively.
Can you share your approach to leadership and decision-making?
I believe in strategic collaboration, with a strong focus on project management and team-centered decision-making.
What inspired you to take on this role, and what motivates you in this position?
VAAP is a critical resource for addiction professionals, and I want to ensure it continues to grow and evolve. With stalwart leaders like Ron Pritchard, David Semanco, Denise Cooper, and Patrice Porter providing mentorship and leadership to thousands over these past years, I stand on their shoulders and hope to make them proud. The opportunity to lead, support, and advocate for this field is something I care deeply about, and I’m excited to help VAAP move forward with strategic, thoughtful leadership.
