On March 14, 2025, addiction professionals from across Virginia will gather at the Richmond Marriott Short Pump for the VAAP Annual Meeting & Training—a full-day event dedicated to professional growth, networking, and continuing education. This year’s event will take place at a new location, the Richmond Marriott Short Pump, offering attendees a modern and convenient venue for training, networking, and collaboration. With this change, participants can also take advantage of a discounted room rate, available through February 20, 2025.
This year’s event features the highly regarded Recovery Ally Training & Train-the-Trainer session, led by Tom Bannard, CADC, CPRSS-T, MBA, and Rev. Jan Brown. This interactive training equips attendees with practical tools to support individuals in recovery, while the Train-the-Trainer component empowers participants to bring these insights back to their communities and organizations.
In addition to training, the event offers 6 Continuing Education (CE) hours, an opportunity to vote at the annual business meeting, and five chances to win a full scholarship to the Virginia Summer Institute for Addiction Studies (VSIAS) in Williamsburg this July. The day will also feature networking opportunities, exhibitor connections, and complimentary lunch, snacks, and beverages.
VAAP Board President, David Semanco emphasized the importance of this year’s program, stating, “The Recovery Ally Training is a cornerstone of the recovery advocacy movement. This year’s session not only equips attendees with the knowledge to become allies, but also gives them the tools to train others and expand recovery-focused networks throughout Virginia.”
